The Men’s tennis game has been pretty much dominated by 3 players in the last decade and a half. Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic have won 56 Grand Slams combined. They have also been ruthless in other big tournaments like the Masters 1000s and the Nitto ATP season-ending finale. Since 2017 four new young tennis players with immense talent have entered the scene. They are now threatening the hegemony of the Big 3 in the game.
Dominic Thiem: Men’s Tennis Player
The current world number 3 is one of the brightest young tennis players on the ATP tour. Thiem has already made it to 3 Grand Slam finals in Men’s tennis. His game looks tailor-made for the slow clay courts, thus powering him to 2 Roland Garros finals. He is currently the best clay courter in Men’s tennis after Rafa Nada. Dominic has also improved his hard-court game since 2019. He won the Indian Wells Masters beating Roger Federer in 2019 final. He also reached the finals of 2019 Nitto ATP finale and the 2020 Australian Open. Thiem is among the young tennis players who are expected to dominate the game after the Big 3.
Daniil Medvedev: Men’s Tennis Player
Medvedev reached the 2019 US Open finals and also won 2 back to back Masters that year. He has now strengthened his place at the top 5. Medvedev has been called as the most solid and mentally strong among young tennis players on the tour. His performances against the world number 1 Novak Djokovic last year further testify that fact. The Russian has a solid baseline game with very few weak shots. His commitment to improvement has been admired over the past 18 months. This makes the current world number 5 as one of the best talents on the tour.
The 2019 Nitto finale champion has now truly matured as a tennis player. The 21-year-old Greek is currently ranked world number 6 in Men’s tennis singles. His precocious talent along with great temperament makes the Greek one of the most sought after young tennis players on the ATP tour. Tsitsipas is one of the few players who have beaten each member of the Big 3. He even beat Rafa Nadal on clay in the 2019 Madrid Masters Championships. Stefanos has the potential to excel in all courts and be a future Grand Slam winner as well as world number 1.
The German star had a sensational run in Men’s tennis in 2017 and 2018. He won 3 Masters 1000 titles and even reached the world number 3 in singles rankings. The year 2019 however proved to be a bit tough for Zverev. In 2020 he again started finding his range and rhythm making it to the Australian Open semis. He is one of the most talented young players on the Men’s tour currently. Zverev also has had the success of beating Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic in singles matches. When on flow he is one of the best talents to watch.
These 4 young tennis players have been the most exciting new prospects of the ATP tour. They are expected to dominate Men’s tennis in the coming years.
