The Austrian tennis star turned pro in 2011 but has been making a real impact for the last 4 years. He beat one of the greatest ever tennis superstars Rafael Nadal on the Spaniard’s bellowed red clay in 2016 at the Rio Open. This was a great upset with Rafa’s records on clay being almost perfect. Since then Dominic Thiem has beaten Nadal 4 times in the dirt, with 1 beating every year. This has earned him the famous title, ‘Prince of Clay.’ The hard-hitting baseliner is now making a name for himself as one of the brightest young tennis superstars.

Thiem has also been highly consistent at the French Open in the last 4 years. He made it to the semi-finals there in 2016 and 2017. In the last two years, he has gone one step ahead, finishing the finalist at Roland Garros. In Paris, few tennis superstars can match Austrian’s game. He has already won 16 titles in his career so far. Dominic Thiem has been unlucky not to get the Masters title on clay but in 2019, he won the ATP 500 in Barcelona. He is certainly emerging as the best player on clay courts after Rafa Nadal.

All great tennis players aim to build a perfect all-court game. This sets the famous tennis superstars apart from average players. Thiem is now building a perfect game on the hard courts also. In 2019 Dominic Thiem won his biggest title at hard courts. He beat one of the greatest tennis superstars Roger Federer in that action-packed Indian Wells 2019 final. Thiem also reached the finals of Nitto ATP season-ending finale in 2019. In this process, he beat tennis greats like Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer back to back in the round-robin league.

In the 2020 Australian Open Dominic Thiem reached his 3rd Grand Slam final. He almost did the unthinkable of beating Novak Djokovic at Rod Laver Arena. Dominic was leading by 2 sets to 1 but could not keep his nerves in check and surrendered the match in the end. He was hurt after the final but confident that he will have many more such chances soon.

With the highest career ranking of world number 3 and looking in great touch, Thiem promises many things in the coming years. He will be among the best tennis superstars on the tour. The Austrian will surely win the French Open in his career along with other slams and become world number 1. He only needs to improve his game on the grass courts.
