Berrettini was born in Viterbo and he began his career at his hometown club Foligno Calcio. In 2007, he joined Parma’s Allievi Nazionali under-17 team and scored 5 goals in the regular season. He also played once for Parma’s reserve B against Piacenza on October 27, 2007. However, he was not awarded the first-team contract at the end of the season due to insufficient appearances with both youth teams and reserves throughout the 2007–08 season.

In August 2008, Berrettini joined Serie C side, Prato, on loan. That season he played 3 times in a regular season. In the next season, he remained in Prato which entered the promotion playoffs. He scored 1 goal for Prato during that match, but they were eliminated by Varese in the return leg of the semi-finals and finished as runners-up behind champions Juve Stabia. They lost to SPAL in the finals and failed to win a spot to remain in Lega Pro Seconda Divisione (ex–Serie C2). Berrettini is only able to play once during that playoff due to injury.

In July 2010, Parma finally gave up their remaining 50% registration rights of Berrettini to Genoa for free. In August, he was loaned to Lega Pro Seconda Divisione side Forlì. He scored 13 goals in the regular season and finished as the top scorer of Group A. That season Berrettini also played twice for Forlì in the promotion playoffs, which they were eliminated by Lumezzane in the return leg of the semi-finals.

In June 2011, Berrettini returned to Genoa but remained in their reserve at first. However, on 31 January 2012, he left for another third division club South Tyrol (in Italian: Alto Adige).[9] On 23 March 2012, Berrettini made his league debut for South Tyrol in a 0–0 draw against Triestina.

On 25 July 2012, Berrettini returned to Genoa once again and became an official member of the first team. However, he was only able to play for Genoa in 2012–13 Coppa Italia. He wore no.23 shirt that season and only made 4 appearances in total (including qualification round and extra time). On 30 January 2013, Berrettini left for Andria BAT along with Giuseppe Colucci. In June 2013 Genoa gave up their remaining 50% registration rights to Andria BAT. Berrettini was a substitute player in both legs of promotion playoffs, as Andria BAT was defeated by Lecce in the finals. However, Berrettini also played for Andria BAT in 2012–13 Coppa Italia Lega Pro. He scored 1 goal in the first match of Round 2 against Lumezzane, although he was sent off during that match

On 24 August 2013, Berrettini left for Fano.[16][17] On 30 January 2014, he left for Lecco.

On 13 July 2015 Berrettini joined Alessandria on loan with an option to purchase.[19] On 31 August 2016, he moved to Padova on a temporary deal. On 5 July 2017 Berrettini signed with Sambenedettese, with Angelo Bencivenga moving in the opposite direction.

Starting of Berrettini International career

Berrettini started his international career in the Italy under-19 team. He received a call-up from manager Massimo Piscedda for a mini preparatory camp prior 2007 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship elite round in February 2007. Berrettini played once against Israel U18 on 23 February 2007, in which he scored a goal. However, he was dropped from Piscedda’s final squad. In April 2009, Berrettini also played twice for the U18 team against Slovakia and San Marino, however, it did not take him into the final squad of the 2009 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship elite qualification. Berrettini was in the squad of the U19 team against Serbia (due to injury), but did not play. He also received a call-up in August 2010, for the 2011 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship qualification against Croatia. However, he was only able to play once in the last match of the qualifiers. Berrettini remained in the U19 team since then and made 3 appearances for under-19 “Azzurrini” in friendlies, one of them being played against Italy under-20.
